ILLUSTRATION

I LOVE making images. Although my background was originally in traditional media, I have primarily been creating illustrated images for some time in electronic media pushing pixels around. In fact, I have not only found ways to simulate my style of layered textural painting using Corel Painter and Photoshop, I have been able to push the boundaries much further than natural media would ever allow me. For drawing however, I still love sketching with a pencil or pen and you can see some of that here too.

This IMAGE page shows a representative sampling from each of my two main categories, ILLUSTRATION and PHOTOGRAPHY. For more complete samples organized by type, please click on the link for that particular page.

PHOTOGRAPHY

I LOVE TO CREATE IMAGES THAT TELL STORIES. Sometimes the images I draw, paint or photograph have very direct narrative objectives. Occasionally they are very obtuse and open to interpretation. Sometimes, especially my photographic images, the accompanying stories are personally experiential, so have hidden or unique meaning for me alone because I was present and the viewer couldn’t possibly have been. For those images, the primary value they represent may be purely aesthetic or anecdotal to each viewer’s own experiences. In my experience and the way I work, often the most intense and personal situations will be captured exclusively in my memory and not with a camera. I know for a fact I’m not alone in that approach either. My goal is to inspire others to go out and create their own experiences rather than simply be spectators in mine. The best of these must remain the exclusive domain of their respective participants.
